Horse trailers
We sell new and used horse trailers. The right one depends on the horse, the car and how you like to load. These are the things to look at.

What to look at
Size
Think about the tallest, longest horse you will carry. Bigger horses need more headroom and a wider stall.
Single or double
A single is lighter and easier to tow. A double takes two horses. On some doubles the partition comes out, which gives one horse more room.
Loading
Check the ramp has a good non-slip surface and is easy to lift. Some trailers have a front ramp as well, so a horse can walk off forwards.
Floor
Rubber mats can hide the floor. On a used trailer, lift them and check the boards underneath for rot and soft spots.
Inside
Partitions, breast bars and breeching bars should be secure and padded where the horse touches them. Windows and roof vents give air on a warm day. If there is a tack locker, check that it keeps the damp out and locks.
Weight and brakes
Once a horse is on board, most horse trailers weigh well over 750kg, and over 750kg loaded a trailer must have working brakes. Add the horse and tack to the trailer’s empty weight and compare the total with your car’s towing limit.
Before you buy any trailer, read the buying advice. It covers your car’s towing limit, your licence and the weights to check.
